I recently put in a 128 GB M.2 NGFF-SSD hard drive in the slot for WWAN as a second SSD. It could not recognize the drive because of the formatting, but after being formatted to NTFS, it worked flawlessly. Today I could not find the drive again, so I tried re-mounting it physically without luck, and I cannot find it in Disk Management or Explorer. According to Lenovo: Me: I heard a rumor that the T470s WWAN slot can take an SSD, do you know if this is possible? Sales Agent: checking on that now. I know some of our thinkpads will support a second m.2 ssd in the WANN slot but I'm not positive about the T470s. Sales Agent: you cannot use the WANN slot for a second SSD on this machine.

The first thing to do is unscrew the screws that secure the bottom cover, and then insert a thin plastic tool under the bottom cover. The bottom cover has many hidden latches fastening it to the palmrest. You need to move the thin plastic tool along the side and unfasten all latches.
With the bottom cover removed, you can get access to the battery, SSD, CMOS battery, RAM slot, cooling fan, heatsink, and motherboard.

Here’s the WWAN 2242 M.2 slot of the T490. I saw that someone installed a PCIe SSD to this slot, but the system does not recognize it. This is very regrettable.
